Since 1988, Doug’s Auto Repair has been operating a successful garage in Bells Corners. Tom, the current owner, approached us for assistance with his storefront signage, looking to modernize his backlit sign and reduce the electricity bill.

Tom tried working with other printing studios for this project, however it seemed that after a design was discussed there was no further contact, resulting in the sign remaining unchanged.

 Eager to demonstrate our customer service and signage expertise, we happily took over where the other studios left off. Heather created original mock-ups, making adjustments before completing a final proof that met all of Tom’s needs. The concept was stylized to incorporate a cohesive design with the pre-existing window graphics.

 Once the design was approved, the logistics of the install were determined. A permit was requested and obtained from the City of Ottawa to ensure we would be able to move forward with the installation. As the new sign would be 3’ x 30’, 50% larger than the current, approval was required before proceeding with fabrication.

After getting the green light, graphics were printed on “flex face”, a fabric material specific to backlit signage which is pulled taught over the frame. With the new frame, outfitted with LEDs, and graphics printed, installation was underway. Spanning the entire morning, the old sign face was removed and lowered using a cherry picker and cabling. Old florescent lights were taken down, followed by the original frame. Meanwhile the crew on the ground prepped the graphics by fixing them to the flex frame.

 The installation went smoothly with the new larger frame being mounted to the building, using the same cherry picker technique. The new and prepared graphic was then lifted and clipped into the frame for a secure hold. The difference is night and day. Truly a storefront transformation!
