A Black Belt in Branding: Buckley Jiu-Jitsu

They say timing is everything, so when Speedpro reached out to fellow small business owner Patrick Buckley, of Buckley MMA, we were looking to discuss ways we could support him along with his marketing and visual communication strategies and he was looking to re-brand, which was music to our creative ears!

The first step was setting up a meeting between Patrick and our studio owner, Craig. This is a vital stage for us at Speedpro. Ideally, we like to learn as much as we can about your business, brand, and objective moving forward before we start forming our larger-than-life solutions.

The issue here was that Patrick’s original name and logo were giving off the wrong impression. His potential customers were coming to him confused, thinking MMA looked more like a UFC fight, than a self-defense oriented martial art. His goal was to build a more family-oriented and approachable message into the look and feel of his business’s branding.

The second step was to have our graphic designer create a new logo to reflect those goals and incorporate the fact that Patrick is a proud Canadian, who holds a Red/White belt.

After the design was approved, we started discussing how Patrick could utilize his new logo. It was time to let go of the old and replace with the new, which meant an up to date overhead sign, window graphics, pylon sign, banners and vehicle graphics. We were excited to have the opportunity to complete such a variety of projects!
